  • Japan Renewable Energy Corp enters Taiwan by acquiring 1.8 MW solar plant

Japan Renewable Energy Corp (JRE) said it has acquired 1.8 MW Big Canal solar plant in Taiwan.

The acquisition, done via its local subsidiary JRE International Taiwan Corporation, reflects its first overseas effort.

The solar PV plant was purchased for an undisclosed amount from Taiwanese renewable energy business developer

King Sun New Tech Co Ltd. Operational since September 2018, Big Canal consists of four sites on a waterway in

Pingtung County. The solar park is capable of generating some 2.15 million kWh per year, enough to meet the

annual power demand of 488 local homes.

JRE's acquisition is part of the company's move to explore the possibilities of the Taiwanese solar market as the country plans to grow the sector, currently targeting 20 GW of solar power installations by 2025, JRE noted.
